Delighted manager Matt Clements hailed his St Neots Town warriors after one of the finest successes of his reign.
Clements dished out the plaudits in the wake of a 4-0 triumph at Dorchester in the Southern League Premier Division last night. Saints delivered a dominant display in dreadful conditions during their third game in just five days.
Striker Tom Meechan made an early breakthrough with the first goal of his third spell as a Saints player and wideman Dion Sembie-Ferris soon doubled the advantage. The points were sealed early in the second half thanks to a brace from in-form frontman Nabil Shariff.
It was a success which lifted Clements’ side back into the top half of the standings and to within touching distance of his 60-point target for the campaign.
The Saints chief said: “It’s right up there with the best performances and results since I’ve been St Neots Town manager.
“We had a four-hour journey down to Dorchester, had tired legs after games on Thursday and Saturday, and had to play on an absolute bog of a pitch in horrible conditions.
“But we produced a fantastic display and I’m proud of every single man who was involved.
“We’ve had a tough time lately but I think we’ve showed in recent days that we’re getting back into our groove and the boys have given me everything.”
“Three of our last four games are at home and we want to end the season with as many points and positives as possible.”
The victory at Dorchester completed a hectic spell which began with a 3-1 derby success against St Ives last Thursday.
Their form briefly nosedived when losing 4-3 at Kings Langley last Saturday, but the response at Dorchester was terrific.
And it wasn’t just the display on the pitch that impressed Clements on Monday. He also saved plenty of superlatives for a hardy band of Saints supporters.
“The fans have been class all season and it was brilliant to see people make such a long journey on Monday to get behind us at Dorchester,” added Clements.
“They have enjoyed the good times and stuck with us through the difficult ones, and now the aim is end the season on a high and hopefully with a trophy for them.”
St Neots entertain 14th placed Redditch this Saturday before welcoming Banbury, who currently sit five points above them in ninth, to the Premier Plus Stadium on Tuesday.
Saints then go to promotion-chasing King’s Lynn on April 21 before completing the league campaign against bottom side Gosport Borough on April 28.
Their final outing of the season is the Hunts Senior Cup final against Eynesbury Rovers on May 2.
