Eynesbury continued a terrific start to 2018 with a third successive victory last Saturday.

Mark Ducket’s men climbed into fifth place in the United Counties League Premier Division with a 3-1 triumph against Kirby Muxloe at Hall Road.

It may have been a different story had their latest goalkeeping recruit not impressed during the first half of his debut.

Former Bedford FC man Jack Mudge made several smart saves before Craig Smith ahead on the half hour. He converted a Matt Clifford free-kick as Eynesbury found the net with their first effort of any note.

Mudge is the sixth man to play in goal for Rovers this season. Dan George, Tim Trebes, Josh Boniaiti and Liam Gooch – the latter two as loan players – have both occupied the number one berth previous. Defender Curtis Hartley even stepped in as an emergency keeper for a Boxing Day draw at Yaxley.

Eynesbury had to wait until the 71st minute to double their lead when Smith struck for the second time after linking well with leading scorer Dom Lawless.

Kirby Muxloe briefly halved their arrears with three minutes to go, but any thoughts of a dramatic comeback were quickly dashed by Lawless’ 37th goal of a terrific personal season.

Rovers go to Wellingborough Town this Saturday before entertaining lower-level Potton in a Hinchingbrooke Cup quarter-final on Tuesday (February 6).

* Eynesbury have folded their reserve side following a troubled season.

Original boss Daniel Woodhead stepped down early in the campaign and his successors, Dean Shipp and Adam Fleming, then departed at Christmas.

A Rovers statement confirmed: “Unfortunately it is with regret that the club has taken the decision to withdraw our reserve team from the United Counties League for the rest of the season.

“We have done our utmost to keep the team going, but due to a lack of commitment from players we have no option other than to withdraw.

“We recently brought in a new coach to run the reserve side, but he will now take up a coaching role with the first team.

“It is planned for the club to have a second team again next season, but what form it takes and what league it competes in will be decided in the summer.”
