Godmanchester Rovers boss Chris Hyem is plotting a Hunts Senior Cup giant-killing tonight.

Hyem hopes to send one of his former clubs, one of his previous managers and his own brother tumbling out of the competition when Rovers travel to higher-level St Neots Town for a semi-final tie at the Premier Plus Stadium, 7.45pm.

Hyem has enjoyed an impressive start to his managerial career by leading Godmanchester up the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division standings at Step 5 level since being apppointed in October.

And he is aiming to pile on the misery for a St Neots side battling to avoid relegation from the Southern League Premier Division, two levels further up the ladder.

Speaking last week, Hyem said: “I had a look at St Neots recently and I have to admit they weren’t impressive.

“They’re clearly going through a tough spell and we need to try to take advantage of that, but they still play two levels higher than us and should really beat us.

“All the pressure is on St Neots. Any neutral will expect them to roll us over, but I believe we’re more than capable of causing a shock.

“This is a massive competition for me and I’d love to reach the final.”

Tonight will be Rovers’ first outing since January 2. Their scheduled league clash last Saturday was postponed.

St Neots were in action on that day and enjoyed a welcome victory when beating Dorchester 3-2 to climb out of the drop-zone.

Saints are now managed by former Godmanchester boss Matt Clements, who led Rovers to a runners-up finish last season, while Hyem’s sibling, Micky, is their skipper and another ex-Rovers man.

The two clubs have met in the Hunts Senior Cup on four previous occasions - all of which ended in 1-0 wins for St Neots.

Holders St Ives Town, who are hot favourites to retain the trophy, go to Eynesbury Rovers in the other semi-final on February 7.

Godmanchester have a league clash ahead of that county semi. They host Haverhill this Saturday, 3pm, when bidding to bounce back from successive defeats to end 2016 and open 2017.
