Manager Matt Clements is optimistic that sought-after striker Jevani Brown will be a St Neots Town player for the rest of the season.

Brown has struck 13 times in as many Saints appearances - a fine record which includes two valuable goals in recent days.

He fired them to a 1-0 victory against Redditch in the Southern League Premier Division last Saturday before grabbing an equaliser in a 1-1 draw against promotion-chasing Slough at the Premier Plus Stadium in recent days.

Brown is understood to have attracted interest from a host of Football League clubs after starring in Saints colours since his December arrival from Stamford AFC.

The 22-year-old played for Championship side Birmingham City’s Under 23 team last Wednesday, but Clements is hopeful his most dangerous weapon will see out the current campaign in Saints colours.

Clements said: “Jevani received plenty of good feedback for his performance in the Under 23 game for Birmingham.

“They’re going to continue to monitor his performances, and I’m aware of several other clubs doing the same.

“Hopefully we can keep hold of Jevani for the rest of the season and then evaluate the situation.

“He’s certain to continue attracting interest if he can maintain his current level of form.

“He’s not in the least bit distracted by it because he just loves playing football, and is enjoying his time at St Neots.”

Boss Clements is delighted with the improved all-round performances of his team as they have forged seven points clear of the Premier Division relegation zone.

The Redditch success came complete with a first clean sheet since August while Saints also dominated for long spells against Slough in a match which featured late penalty drama. Brown struck the locals’ leveller from the spot with two minutes remaining, but there was still time for Slough to earn a squander a penalty of their own as James Dobson slammed his spot-kick high over the bar in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Clements added: “The clean sheet was a major positive last Saturday and it formed part of the best all-round display in my time at the club.

“We were organised and disciplined for the whole 90 minutes against Edditch and there was never a point where I feared we might lose the game.

“I felt sure a point was going to be the minimum we would get out of it, and then a bit of magic from Jevani turned it into three points.

“It was one of those days where everyone delivered an eight-out-of-10 performance - and when that happens you have a very good chance of winning the football match.

“To follow it up with a well-deserved draw against Slough was another boost. It would have been daylight robbery if they had won the game in stoppage time.”

Saints face a busy week on the road with three trips in seven days. They go to Cirencester tomorrow, visit King’s Lynn on Tuesday and then head to Hayes & Yeading next Friday.
