Godmanchester Rovers have not signed a single player this summer . . . but new boss Matt Clements isn’t worried.

Clements has stepped into the Bearscroft Lane hotseat to succeed the managerial duo of Nev Nania and Matty Hanniver, who stepped aside after the club’s best-ever season.

The vast majority of the squad which finished as Thurlow Nunn Premier Division runners-up and lifted the Hunts Senior Cup is expected to remain. Only striker Tom Meechan and midfielder Matt Bannister have departed to date.

Clements said: “We haven’t asked any players to put pen to paper as yet. I felt it was important they got to know me and vice versa first.

“I’m delighted with what I have seen so far. We had a terrific turnout for the three training sessions during the first week of pre-season.

“There is some outrageous ability in the squad and my job is to bring in two-or-three new faces to add to the quality we already have.

“There is a bit of a buzz around the place. That is credit to the boys and the job done by Nev and Matty last season.”

Twins Jonny and James Hall are both training with Rovers after leaving St Ives Town. Midfielder James Peters also departed ProEdge Westwood Road to move to Bedford Town whileformer Huntingdon hot-shot Declan Rogers is training with St Ives after leaving AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Godmanchester and St Ives both have their first pre-season friendlies on Saturday.

Huntingdon are scheduled to have their first outing tonight (Wednesday) at home to Histon.
