St Neots Rockets are celebrating cup success after being pipped to title glory.

The youth side missed out on the Bedford & District Netball League Youth Division One title to big rivals Grangers Hurricanes by virtue of an inferior goal difference, but that disappointment turned to delight when they beat the same opponents to capture the Youth Cup.

The showpiece clash was played over four quarters with each of them being treated as a match in its own right.

St Neots triumphed 6-2 and 7-2 in the opening two of them before being beaten 7-1 in the third. But a 5-5 deadlock in the closing clash secured the silverware.

The successful Rockets team is made up Emily Hinton, Emily Banks, Sam Harding, Tilly Hill, Charlie Churms, Kate Walker, Etilly Pigg, Ailish McAloney and Leah Smith.

St Neots Netball Club, who also have a couple of senior sides in the Bedford & District set-up, train on Tuesday evenings at Longsands Academy.

Junior sessions run from 6pm to 7pm, while the adults are on court between 7pm and 8.30pm.

The club welcome new players and the contact for further information is coach Amanda Pigg, who can be reached by e-mail at thepiggsofmeagrefarm@hotmail.co.uk
