ALEX Walton held his nerve to nudge St Neots & District Indoor Bowls Club through to the next round of The National U25 Double Rink.

With the score at 40 shots all after both home and away rinks against City of Ely had finished all square an extra end was needed to decide the outcome of the tie. The extra end was played at the St Neots with the players, who had been in action at Ely, anxiously awaiting the outcome.

The home rink of Hannah and Lucy Felce, Josh Green and Alex Walton looked all but beaten with just two woods to be delivered as Ely lay shot with a bowl that was resting on the jack. Walton delivered a perfectly weighted final bowl to nudge the Ely wood out and leave his rink counting two. The Ely skips reply missed the target to give Saints passage to the next round. Over at Ely the away rink of Robbie Barker, Jamie Barker, Tom Wiseman and Luke Allaway breathed a sigh of relief before celebrating the victory.

St Neots ladies were in action against Turpins in the Yetton Trophy and stormed to a resounding 99-44 shots win.

It was a similar result in the Vivienne Trophy against Chesterton with Neots ladies charging to a 104-69 shots victory.
