ST NEOTS Town’s new reserve team manager has his eyes on toasting a treble title success come next May.

ST NEOTS Town’s new reserve team manager has his eyes on toasting a treble title success come next May.

Paul Warwick will lead St Neots Reserves into their first – and, he hopes, only – season in the Peterborough and District Premier in 2011-12.

Promising an attractive brand of football that will entertain fans, Warwick says he expects St Neots Reserves to be challenging for the title in their division while the first team and U18 team do the same in theirs.

The 45-year-old was unveiled as the new Reserves manager last week, shortly before the club announced that the team would be entering the P&D Premier from UCL Reserve Division One.

“Our remit is to develop local talent from the area, with a view to those young players representing the first team in the next couple of years,” Warwick told The Hunts Post.

“Promotion is a realistic aim for us and is achievable next season.

“We are looking at being successful throughout the club. The under-18s should be successful next season, and so should we and so should the first team.

“It’s our aim to have three teams promoted at the end of the season.”

To achieve that, Warwick says, will take a blend of youthful talent and old heads and he has already moved to consolidate his set-up by retaining stalwarts Ian Reed and Malcolm Clarke, with “three or four new faces” expected before the season kicks off.

Warwick has his FA Level Two coaching badges, has more than 30 years’ experience of football in the area, and was general manager at Caldicote until three years ago.

He will be aided by assistant managers Steve George and Mark Oakley, while John Wright will remain at the club as coach.

“I hope that we’re going to be playing attractive football. We want to get promoted but we don’t want to resort to route one, so we will play it out from the back and keep it on the floor.

“We want to play a good brand of football that people will want to see, so that fans will be looking forward to the games,” added Warwick.

The move to the Peterborough and District League was announced last week, following discussions between chairman Mike Kearns and first-team boss Dennis Greene.

They decided the Reserves would benefit from playing first-team opposition on a weekly basis rather than other reserve outfits.

Greene said: “Two years ago the Reserves won the title and last year they finished fourth so we were looking for more competitive football.

“The Peterborough Premier is Step Six, and if they win that then they will move to Step Five, which will be a good level to be providing players for the first team.”

Kearns said the change had been made smoothly, and that supporters could look forward to an exciting season.

“Having spoken to the Peterborough and District League we found them most accommodating and they welcomed us into their family.

“This will hopefully give our supporters a chance to come along and see new teams playing at The Hunts Post Community Stadium.

“With the first team on a new adventure, meeting new clubs and supporters, we now have the same adventure for our reserve team.”
