A full round-up of the weekend’s colts action across Huntingdonshire

ST NEOTS

ST NEOTS came back from a goal behind to win 3-2 at Letchworth. The visitors started slowly and conceded in the opening minutes after Letchworth had much of the early play.

St Neots battled back into the match and Josh Unwin grabbed a deserved equaliser before Sam Cartwright headed them into a half-time lead.

Saints kept the pressure up in the second half and Rylee Scott looked to have made the game safe with a well-taken third goal. With time running out the hosts bagged a second to make the final score 3-2 to St Neots.

Nine goals in the match and a last minute winner for Saints U14s was a great advert for colts football as Neots beat Sawbridgeworth 5-4.

Ryan Vale gave Saints an early two-goal lead and Shai Delamare and Jay Lambert added two more after the visitors had notched a brace. Any thoughts of an easy win were scotched when Sawbridgeworth added two more to level but Lambert’s late strike saved the day.

GODMANCHESTER ROVERS

A LATE Harris Lacey strike tied up the points for Rovers U10s against a hard-working Staploe and Duloe side.

He opened the scoring and Chris Barkshire added a second after Duloe had scored. Lacey’s late goal made it 3-1 to Rovers.

Nathan Storey scored Rovers U14s’ consolation goal against a good Priory side who took their chances to win 3-1.

The U13A team cruised through in the first round of the Hunts County Cup, dispatching local rivals Rowdies 16-0. Hat-tricks for Calum Brown, Ashley Hehir, Jared Sharp and Will Taylor were supplemented by goals from Greg Goodwin, Lee Collings, Archie Maggs and Cameron Corden.

Chatteris U14 battered Rovers U14A for the first 20 minutes of play but had little to show for their efforts and by the half-time whistle Rovers looked composed at 0-0.

Sean Olley opened the scoring for Rovers as they pushed forward and Elkanah Sibanda slammed a second. With Chatteris in disarray the same two players added another two goals in quick succession before Farris Alston and Olley made it six of the best. A late consolation penalty for Chatteris took the final score to 6-1.

It took until the second half for the U12s to come alive against Newmarket but by then the Suffolk side had romped into a 4-0 lead. Jack Donnellan smashed in a fine hat-trick and Sam Coulson added a fourth but a flurry of late goals gave Newmarket an 8-4 win.

Goddy U11 suffered a 5-1 reversal at Newmarket. Josh Bavester was on the mark for the consolation goal.

Rovers U9 found their shooting boots against an energetic Needingworth side to register a 6-3 win.

THE Witches U15 team proved too strong for Waterbeach with some stylish attacking football.

Mombe Simwanza netted four times in the 8-3 win. Other strikes came from Liam Peacock, Lewis Nicholls, Levi Massey and Bradley Whybrow.

At U11 level, Liam Bullard snatched a consolation as Warboys lost 9-1 to Littleport.

PRIORY PARKSIDE

A goal from Alex Bonafont and a last-minute strike from Jamie Din gave the U16s a 2-1 win over neighbours Little Paxton.

After a slow start, Priory U14B warmed to the task against Walden and ran out 5-2 winners. Sam Pritchard put a hat-trick to his name with Frankie Higgs and Dom Smith each taking singles.

Zac Dixon and Adrian O’Hara turned in great defensive displays for Priory U9F against Ramsey A and, with Tom Ward bagging a brace, Priory snatched a 2-0 win.

Castle Camps proved too strong for Priory U12 who battled to the end but went down 5-2. From two down, Priory levelled through Fraser Clarke and an own goal but Camps surged forward to score three second-half goals.

The U10s fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bluntisham in the final minutes of the match. Both keepers saw plenty of action and Priory took the lead through Scott Lee before Bluntisham bagged two for the win.

ALCONBURY

SIX goals for George Bush and five for Oliver Bravo-Escos helped the Reds U9 to a 15-0 win over Ramsey B.

Thomas Martin (2), Alexander Littlewood and Jack Goodyear added the icing to an excellent display.

Lakenheath’s 18-match unbeaten run was clinically undone by the U16s, who returned with a 5-2 win under their belts. It came courtesy of goals from James Petts, Chris Alban, Ryan Smith, Elliott Morris and debutant Jake Leonce.

Reds U10s cruised home against Somersham Black 11-3. Kyle Kirschner scored five, Leopard Bragg pounced for a hat-trick, with Ross Mackie’s two and Max Hawthorne completing the list.

Jack Wyles hit a first half hat-trick as the U9s stormed to a 6-2 lead at the break. But the wheels fell off in a big way as KC Cougars hit back with six of their own. Wyles added his fourth but the game finished 8-7 to Cougars.

LITTLE PAXTON

GOALS from Luca-Jim Huttly, Nathan Shipley and Arin Pekdemir and some brave keeping by Ben Goldstone could not stop the U9s from falling to a 7-3 defeat at Somersham.

In an open game against St Ives Rangers R, George Gadd and Brett Davis bagged the U11s’ goals for a 2-2 draw.

ST IVES RANGERS

RANGERS U14 visited last season’s champions Arbury Aces but fell behind after 10 minutes. They replied immediately with a Kieran Price penalty, before Aces snatched a second on half time and added a lucky third to complete a 3-1 win.

Rangers U9R shared the spoils with Little Paxton in a 2-2 draw. The hero for Rangers was Robert Carlos with both goals.

Rangers U14 Girls brushed Sawston aside with ease to win 9-0. Jorgie Hall had two strikes to her name inside 25 minutes, while Georgia Rebane went one better with a hat-trick. Two own goals and singles from Pheobe Webb and Harriet Blundell completed a good away-day.

There was no joy on the road for Rangers U12A as they visited Littleport. Adam Roberts bagged the St Ives consolation effort five minutes from time in the 5-1 defeat.

Rangers U8D managed to see off the challenge of a hard-working Stukeley Meadows with a total team performance.

STUKELEY MEADOWS

CONNOR Paffett was on hand to net the Meadows U8 team’s consolation against St Ives Rangers.

Meadows U12 rang up double figures against Benwick Athletic. Sam Kingswell put five against his name and Harry Cox added a brace, and there were also goals for James Barkshire, Jordan Thrift-Sommers and Ben Witten in the 10-0 win.

NEEDINGWORTH

Needingworth U11 racked up a seven-goal haul against Hemingford Black.

In a great all-round team display, goals from Benjamin Casey (4), Joshua Smith (2) and a Daniel Turnbull strike secured an excellent 7-0 result.

Matty Galpin slammed home a hat-trick for the U9s but the defence failed to hold up Godmanchester, who found time and space to win 6-3.

The U8s won their second game in a row after a fine all-round team display saw them to a 6-4 win over KC Cougars.

KC COUGARS

COUGARS U15 clawed their way back from a goal down to beat Cottenham 4-2 in a top-of-the-table clash. James Belbin, Sam Findlay, Kasey Nicholson and Jack Bowen grabbed a goal apiece away from home.

HUNTINGDON ROWDIES

ROWDIES U16 hit back from 3-2 down early in the second half to beat Over 4-3 in a pulsating match. Pharris Jude and Harvey Kitchin both bagged doubles to maintain Rowdies’ winning start to the season.

Tommy Dear (3), Henry Smith (2), Thomas Garcia (2) and Jamie Turner scored the goals that gave the U7s an 8-3 win against Alconbury.

BUCKDEN

TRAILING by a single goal early in the match, Buckden U13s hit back against Needingworth in the County Cup match to win the day 3-1.

Luke Fennel equalised before the break and second-half goals from Jacob Brown and Joe Griffin sealed the comeback.

The U8 Vultures surrendered a three-goal lead against Little Paxton to lose 7-5. James Beamish and Jason Graham both hit the back of the net twice and Joe Hitchin added a fifth but Paxton finished the match with five in the last 10 minutes to take an unlikely win.
