ST IVES Bulls’ final Midlands Four East South away fixture of the season ended in a narrow 19-17 defeat at Stoneygate on Saturday.
Although sixth-placed Ives will be kicking themselves after they surrendered the lead against their hosts, who sit fourth in the table.
Tries from Michael Harris and Oliver Bartlett, both converted by the dependable Stuart Cornwall, handed the visitors a 14-0 first half lead.
However two Stoneygate tries, one successfully converted, pulled them back to within two points at half time.
Another converted home try put Ives on the back foot and, although they were pushed by Ives, with Cornwall nailing a penalty, the home side held on.
Two home games now remain for St Ives, starting with the visit of the division’s bottom side Thorney to Somersham Road on Saturday, as they look to pip local rivals to finish fifth.
