St Ives Cycling Club claimed a hat-trick of podium finishes yesterday – at a venue used for the Olympic Games.

Sam Trotter (Youth Male), Nathan Gibson (Junior Male) and Sapphire Curtis (Juvenile Girls) all collected third places in the first round of the Mud Sweat and Gears Eastern Region League.

They braved the bitterly cold conditions to impress around the hilly and technical Hadleigh Park course, which was the stage for mountain bike events at London 2012.

There were a total of 14 St Ives members in action with Dominic Pauley (fifth, Under 12 Boys), Ruby O’Dell (sixth, Under 9 Girls), Orla Kenna (sixth, Under 12 Girls), Jack Taylor (sixth, Sport Male) and Ralf Falkner (eighth, Juvenile Male) all gained top-10 finishes.

Leo Falkner (13th), Ian Megginson (21st), Elliot Kenna (63rd) and Ryan O’Dell (67th) all raced in the Open Male category while Mick Curtis was 40th at Veteran Male level.
