LOLA claimed a historic double-class win in Barcelona on Sunday, winning the overall race and the secondary category. The Huntingdon built cars stormed to victory in the 1,000 kilometre race, coming first in both Le Mans Prototype One (LPM1) and LMP2 classes, the first time a constructor has won both since 2004. Jan Charouz, Tomas Enge and Stefan Mucke all helped steer the Lola-Aston Martin car to win by a clear 14 seconds. "I'm absolutely delighted with this result, but it was a very close call at the finish," said Mucke. "It was so tight at the end that I really did not know which way everything would go." Lola ensured top honours in both categories when the Italian trio of Thomas Biagi, Matteo Bobbi and Andrea Piccini led them to the LMP2 victory. Their Number 30 Racing Box Lola B09\/80 Judd cruised to a respectable seventh placed finish. "The team did a great job in a very short amount of time," Piccini said. "We only had one car for the winter tests and both cars are on the podium. We only had a few small problems and I did not need to push too much." In the American Le Mans Series, Dyson Racing raced both their Lola LMP2 cars to second and third placed finishes at St Petersburg, Florida, and both eclipsed the Fernandez Acura in outright speed with faster race laps. Intersport Racing grabbed second in LMP1 to ensure five podium visits during one of Lola's most successful racing weekends Executive chairman and owner of Lola Martin Birrane said: "This weekend's success truly magnifies the influence that Lola have on global endurance racing. Exceptional class wins at Barcelona and a double podium at St Petersburg reflect the huge investment we have made in technical excellence over the last decade. "I heartily congratulate all our teams on their success this weekend and as a company Lola will look forward to more of these impressive performances in the coming season." The next stop for Le Mans Series competitors will be at Spa-Francorchamps on May 10. For more information about Lola, visit www.lola-group.com or e-mail email@example.com.
