ON TRACK: Teenage karting sensation Elliot Burton, from Sawtry Community College, made an immediate impact on the European Karting scene in his first international event. Racing at the European Karting Championship qualifiers in Alcaniz Spain, last weekend, Burton, 17, qualified sixth-fastest. The star quickly made up ground to be second at the end of the first lap in heat one and - despite briefly taking the lead - he had to content himself with a close second after a slight error toward the end of the race. Heat two saw Burton in contention all the way, but a third place was the best he could manage, while in the third heat pit problems left him at the back of the 34-strong field. However, a never-say-die attitude got him inside the top 20 by the finish. Heat four was to see a real melee at the first bend and the Sawtry youngster had to be content with sixth spot. With the top 36 drivers progressing to the final, Burton made the line-up in 18th position, but again mechanical problems forced him to the back of the field for the start. After 14 gruelling laps he was more than happy to finish in 15th place in his first international meeting.
