WE ARE giving you an extra couple of days to nominate your sports hero for the 2012 Coversure Hunts Post Sports Awards.

Names have been flooding in but there is now time to put forward some more with our deadline for nominations now extended to 6pm, this Friday, July 13.

This year's Coversure Hunts Post Sports Awards will be hosted by Hinchingbrooke House Performing Arts on Tuesday July 31 and once all the nominations are in, a panel of judges will sit down and the nine shortlists will be decided upon.

Last year, the awards evening was held at St Neots Town Football Club, and the then Saints manager Dennis Greene was named Coach of the Year.

The club's first team was named the senior team of the year after winning promotion from the United Counties League into the Southern League.

Greene is no longer the manager of the club, despite leading the team to a second successive promotion.

Will his name still be in the frame for an award?

And what about the managers of United Counties Division champions Huntingdon Town Ricky Marheineke, or Eastern Counties title winners Godmanchester Rovers: David Hurst and Neville Nania.

Of course, it's all about individuals as well as teams - with swimmer Lauren Steadman, who will take part in the London 2012 Paralympics in August, picking up last year's Outstanding Achievement for an athlete with a disability award, and Alan Hannibal honoured with the lifetime achievement award for his work with the BRJ Road Running Club.

Other awards being presented this year will be Sports Personality, Team of the Year (junior), Unsung Hero, School of the Year and Outstanding Achievement (over-18), Outstanding Achievement (under-18).

Andy Veale, editor of The Hunts Post said: "Last year was a fantastic night and we are all looking forward to honouring the region's hardest working sports people again this year.

"Sometimes people involved in grassroots sport don't get the plaudits they deserve and it is on nights like these that we get to put that right."
