THREE new clubs have entered the 2011 Cranfield Cup, but the competition has lost St Neots CC after the club announced it had folded.

The Cranfield Cup’s new entries are Fenstanton, last year’s runners-up in Cambs 4A, Abbots Ripton, who took the same place in Cambs 5A, and Little Paxton of Hunts 5.

The competition, due to be played in September, will involve a mini-league stage and Cup and Plate finals, with proceeds going to charity.

The other competing clubs are Buckden, Great Staughton, Eltisley and Alconbury. Abbots Ripton will also participate in the Coote Cup.

Despite the demise of St Neots, club spokesman Dipak Patel said he was hopeful of keeping cricket at the Common. The club folded after just two seasons in the Hunts league after struggling both on and off the field.
