Two familiar faces feature among three more arrivals at St Neots Town ahead of the new Southern League Premier Division season.

Joint bosses Andy Davies and Robbie O’Keefe have snapped up utility man Tom Wood, who last played for the club in the 2012/13 campaign, and also want to bring back defender Luke Trotman, who had a spell on loan with Saints last term.

A deal has already been agreed with Wood, who spent last term at Ryman League outfit Waltham Abbey, and can play in a number of defensive and midfield positions.

Teenager Trotman, who has been released by League Two side Luton Town, could sign in the coming days.

Both players will appear in Saints’ first pre-season friendly outing tonight (Tuesday) when they entertain Step 6 side Whittlesey Athletic at the Premier Plus Stadium, 7.45 pm (free entry).

Also on the teamsheet will be Charlie Butt. The former Peterborough United youngster, who has played for King’s Lynn and AFC Rushden & Diamonds in non-league, specialises at right-back.

Saints drafted in new blood in that position after learning another summer signing, Ieuan Lewis, needs knee surgery.

Davies said: “I know Charlie from his days at Peterborough and like what he brings to the table.

“He is primarily a right-back, but he has the versatility to play in other positions and will boost the squad in areas where it is a bit light.

“The same applies to Tom as well. He played under myself and Iain Parr a few years ago when he was still a teenager.

“He has continued his football education and picked up plenty of experience since then and we feel he is now ready to step back up to our level.

“Luke will be known to our fans after having a spell with us under David Batch’s management last season.

“He is also a lad who Robbie knows very well and hopefully we can get him signed and sealed in the next few days.”

Former Cambridge United youngster Dom Mason, who operates at right back as well, is also set to earn a place in the St Neots squad.

Goalkeeper Alex Archer has agreed to stay at the club after impressing during the final months of last season.

Saints are also running the rule over former Corby Town keeper Sam Donkin at the moment.

Both shot-stoppers will be involved tonight when Davies and O’Keefe plan to field a different team in each half against Whittlesey.

Davies added: “This game will give the lads a chance to stretch their legs after a couple of weeks of intense pre-season training.

“We’ll take the opportunity to look at our shape and try out a few different systems. It is essential we have the right players for the right positions and the necessary depth in the squad.

“We will continue to play football the right way. We will use all areas of the pitch to attack and we will allow our exciting talents to express themselves.

“But the supporters will also see that we have a group of players who are athletic, aggressive and hungry.”
