Daventry Town 4 Eynesbury Rovers 1

EYNESBURY suffered a disappointing defeat at Daventry, failing to take their chances in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Daventry were the first to get off the mark, with a goal from close range in the opening minutes.

Rovers responded well, Ross West narrowly putting a shot over the Town bar, but Daventry extended their lead on the half-hour with a header.

Rovers hit back well, and reduced the arrears when Mark Garwood set up Craig Smith who fired home.

And they came close to equalising on the stroke of half-time, but the chance went begging.

With Daventry only one goal up, Rovers came out determined for the second half, Paul Carey, Stuart Harper and Garwood going close.

Having had the better of the play, Rovers were disappointed to concede in the 81st minute and give themselves a higher mountain to climb.

But they showed good spirit once more, Carey having a shot saved and Smith shooting wide, but Daventry scored once more to flatter the scoreline.

Eynesbury manager Dean Shipp said afterwards: "We're bitterly disappointed. We created a hatful of chances but didn't convert them.

"Having said that, you can't concede four goals and expect to get a result."

Asked about the end of the season, Shipp added: "We'll be happy to stay in the top six come the end of the season.

"We put ourselves in a good position earlier in the season to do well but with eight first team players out injured we're unlikely to capitalise on that.

"Of course it's disappointing, but we'll regroup at the end of the season and get ready for the next one."

Great Paxton 1 Histon A 0

PAXTON took a tight home win against Histon in a game dominated by the wind.

The home side used the tail-wind to their advantage in the first half, creating lots of chances but not converting any, leaving the game goalless at half-time.

The second half saw Histon come back into it but the home side were still on top and took the lead, Andrew Conway heading home in the 68th minute.

Andy Oxborough in the Paxton goal was forced to make two saves soon after, but Paxton held on comfortably for their first win in five months.

Tiptree United 3 Godmanchester Rovers 1

GODDY took on Tiptree away, narrowly failing to get a result in a tight game.

The away team started brightly, taking the game to Tiptree and playing some neat football whilst Armitage was impressive in the Goddy goal.

Both sides created chances before the break but the first half ended goalless.

The second half saw Tiptree apply pressure as Godmanchester were forced to defend.

Tiptree got the breakthrough after 64 minutes but Godmanchester were spurred on and hunted determinedly for the equaliser, Burling and Carmanati coming close.

Tiptree scored again on 79 minutes after a deflection and Godmanchester started throwing players forward.

Barry Thompson came up with the goods after 85 minutes as the game opened-up, but Tiptree had the final say as they broke away to score in the final minute.

RANGERS warmed up for this week's Cup final with an impressive win over Kings Head to go six points clear at the top of the league.

Buckden Village Neways Cup Final

Crown & Pipes 1 Watertight Wanderers 0

In a wind-influenced game, Crown & Pipes won their first piece of silverware after a goalless game went into extra-time.

The strong wind thwarted both teams' attempts to play flowing football, and neither side could find the breakthrough.

It was not until the second period of extra-time that Crown were rewarded for their persistence with a goal from Andy Wiltshire that followed some neat work from Matt Wilson.

Watertight kept pushing hard, but the changed Crown back-line stood up well and denied them the equaliser.
