Tom Meechan is determined to continue his sensational scoring form for St Neots Town.

The striking star slammed in 53 goals when helping Godmanchester Rovers to Hunts Senior Cup glory following a runners-up finish in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division last season.

His reward is a two-level leap to join Saints for their Southern Premier Division promotion assault next term.

Meechan has penned a one-year contact after the club’s agreed what is thought to be a four-figure fee.

Meechan said: “I’m very thankful to the managers, players and fans at Godmanchester for a really enjoyable season. It was nice to cap it off with the county cup win after finishing runners-up in the league.

“Now the challenge is to keep doing what I’m doing and help St Neots push for promotion. I trained with the club a couple of times at the back end of last season and I’m delighted they pushed through their interest.

“It is a move which enables me to continue to combine playing football and my career in teaching.

“It is a bit of a jump to move up two levels, but it seems like the right thing to do after last season. It is a case of seeing how things go, but I’m looking to produce the same form I showed for Goddy.

“I still think there is more to come. I’m looking forward to learning a lot and hopefully continuing to improve.

“The fact I will potentially have better players around me means I may have more chances to score.

“My goal tally from last season might put me under a bit of pressure, but I won’t let that worry me.”

Meechan’s arrival forms part of a double-attacking boost for Saints in recent days. They have also persuaded leading scorer Drew Roberts to stay for a second campaign.

The 29-goal hitman completed a clean sweep of end-of-season Saints awards and was also recognised in the Premier Division team of the season as selected by The Non-League Paper.
