HUNTINGDON Gymnasts dominated the Cambridgeshire Four-Piece Recreational Gymnastics competition on Saturday.

The annual competition is for children who participate in the sport for a maximum of two hours per week and members of the Huntingdon Gymnastics Club excelled in all of the age groups.

Kyle Bowman (10-11 age group) demonstrated excellent ability to win on three of the four apparatus while teammate Thomas Sherwin won gold on the bars to make it a clean sweep of golds for the club in that age group. Oliver Thompson was consistent across all four pieces and won silver on all the apparatus. Oliver Rittel won three bronze medals on vault, bars and floor.

In the Boys 12-plus age group there was a two-way competition between Imran Cunningham and Aaron Wildman on all four pieces they pushed each other all the way; Cunningham taking the floor, vault and parallel bars gold and Wildman the low bar gold.

In the Girls 12-plus age group three Huntingdon gymnasts competed well to win medals across all apparatus. Amy Millross won the vault gold medal, with Katie Marson in second place and Hannah Norris in third. Katie Marson took the bars gold medal with Millross winning the bronze medal and Hannah Norris finishing in a close fourth place.

Norris won the beam silver and Marson – after a fall – finished in third. On the floor it was Norris’s turn to win gold with Marson coming in second place by the smallest of margins.

All of the boys and girls who competed have now qualified to participate in the Eastern Counties Regional Competition which will take place at Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club in Ipswich on Sunday, November 27.

Adam Scott, a coach at the club, said: “The gymnasts performed really well and will need to continue training hard for the regional competition at the end of November.”
