Godmanchester Rovers have named Matt Clements as their new manager.

The 37 year-old steps up two levels to take over at the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division runners-up after previously managing Cambs Premier outfit Hardwick.

His appointment was confirmed last night by new Rovers chairman Karly Hurst, who was elected to succeed long-serving Keith Gabb at the club’s annual meeting on Thursday (June 4).

Clements said: “I’m honoured to have been offered and accepted the role.

“I am confident that with the ability and talent of the players, combined with the fantastic infrastructure within the club, I can keep up and add to the great work that has already been done.”

Clements was a successful athlete as a youngster with a hat-trick of English Schools Championships sprint hurdles triumphs.

He made one appearance for Cambridge United during a brief career as a professional footballer and has played extensively in non-league with his former clubs including Cambridge City, Sudbury, King’s Lynn and Needham Market.
