GODMANCHESTER Rovers got their first win in six games with a convincing victory at Long Melford last Saturday.

Rovers, who had lost their last four games 1-0, took the lead after 20 minutes when Adam King fired the ball in from the edge of the box. The visitors stayed in control but missed a penalty to go in 1-0 ahead at the interval.

Chris Hyen doubled their advantage when he received the ball and smashed an unstoppable shot home from 20 yards. Robert Rudd rounded off a dominating performance when he finished a passing move that had involved almost the whole team.

Godmanchester Rovers manager Karl Hurst said: "It was a good result and a solid performance as we had lost the last few games by the odd goal so it was about time our luck changed.

"The scoreline shows how comfortable it was, though it was a scrappy game to start with. It's what we have deserved as we haven't played badly in our last few matches and we should have had at least seven points from the last three games but instead we've had none.

"We have a lot of home matches to come and we still want to break into the top six. Confidence is a big thing in football and we are hoping to bounce back now after not winning since Boxing Day."

Godmanchester Rovers next play Swaffham Town at Bearscroft Lane on Saturday.
