Lola’s double Championship success celebrated

NOT content with winning the European Le Mans Series Manufacturers Championship at Silverstone two weeks ago – Lola won the American series title in California last weekend too!

Dyson Racing, long time associates of the Huntingdon-based sports car company, already had the drivers and team championships sewn up when they won the manufacturers title too at the Laguna Seca Race in Monterey at the weekend.

Now European series drivers Andrea Belicchi and Jean Christophe have the chance to win their drivers championship too when they race their LMP1 Lola-Toyota cars at Estoril in Portugal on Sunday.

Going into the final weekend, the Rebellion team pair are currently just one point behind series leaders Pescarolo.

Lola’s communications manager Sam Smith believes these successes are something that Huntingdon as a town should be proud of.

He said: “It’s another validation of the incredible engineering skills and expertise that our employees here at Lola have.

“To win on both sides of the Atlantic within a week is the fulfilment of a lot of hard work and determination by all the departments here at the factory.

“To represent Huntingdon on the world stage and to beat some big names to the title is a great honour and one that we fully intend to repeat in 2012.”

Rebellion Racing team manager Bart Hayden added: “This achievement is the best way to establish a strong and long-term relationship.”

It is less than 12 months since the Lola-Toyota car completed its first evaluation tests in Spain and Portugal.

At the Le Mans 24 Hours this year one of the team’s Lola-Toyotas won the unofficial LMP1 petrol classification, and came in sixth overall.
