AFC Barley Mow have finished their Cambs League season on top of the Division 1B table – but they look set to miss out on a hat-trick of titles.

The Barley boys roared to Division 3B honours in the 2015/16 campaign and followed up with Division 2B glory last term.

They completed their debut campaign at this level with a 3-1 success against local rivals Houghton & Wyton last Saturday to rise to the summit.

They fell behind to a Jordan Brockett goal before leading scorer Josh Turner levelled.

Ben Colmer put the table-toppers ahead before Turner sealed victory.

But the Mow men’s hopes of another title and promotion are out of their hands with fellow locals Alconbury and St Ives Rangers sitting level with them and both armed with a game in hand.

“To be honest we’ve not performed well enough to win the league or go up anyway,” said Barley player-boss Sean Sweeney, whose side boast the best goal difference. “We’ve lost five of our 18 league games a`nd that should be worthy of the title or promotion.”

St Ives Rangers are now favourites to win a thrilling title race after beating Alconbury in a crunch clash at the St Ivo Outdoor Centre last Saturday.

Dominic Moody’s men came from behind to triumph 3-1 thanks to goals from Steve Johnson, Jack Haycock and Mohammed Islam.

Haycock enjoyed a successful Saturday of sporting multi-tasking as he also captained St Ives Town CC to victory on the opening day of the new cricket season either side of his goalscoring contribution for Rangers.

Their success lifted them above Alconbury on goal difference. Alconbury have their final game at Eaton Socon Reserves this Saturday while Rangers must wait until the following weekend to face Chatteris Town Reserves.

Ramsey Pavilion will be assured of a runners-up finish in Division 2B if winning their final two games.

They edged closer to promotion last Saturday as Kyle McPartlin hit a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw at Wimblington.

St Ives Rangers Reserves are within touching distance of promotion in Division 5B after a fine debut season.

Double-strikes from Jackson Bonny and Jamie Perry earned a 4-0 win at Little Downham Swifts Reserves last Saturday and they have followed that triumph up with two more victories in midweek.

Bonny and Jordan Cornwell then earned a 2-0 success against Cottenham United A on Tuesday before the Rangers second string triumphed 3-2 against Fenstanton Reserves last night.

Hemingfords United might not be chasing glory themselves, but they played a bit part in settling the Kershaw Premier Division title race last Saturday.

Matt Peacey’s men claimed a terrific 3-2 success at second-placed Great Shelford – a result which all but ends their hosts’ hopes of preventing West Wratting from being crowned champions.

Will Greatorex put Hemingfords ahead but Great Shelford, who had only lost one previous league game all season, levelled.

Jack Jefferson restored the advantage from the penalty spot before the break and then struck again when heading in a fine Nick Cade cross in the second half.

Great Shelford halved their arrears but Hemingfords held on for a fine success against a team who had beat them 4-0 a fortnight earlier.
