Four-goal James Scott fired Papworth Reserves into the John Ablett Cup final – as their semi-final trip to Wickhambrook finally went ahead at the fourth attempt.
Scott produced the crucial strike in the second half of extra-time as the local side prevailed 5-4 after earlier throwing away a three-goal lead.
A fine Scott lob and a smart Simon Mayes volley handed the Papworth second string a two-goal cushion at half-time.
A penalty halved their arrears before Scott completed his hat-trick to open up a 4-1 advantage.
Hosts Wickhambrook then roared back to level to send the tie into extra-time where Scott struck again to settle a contest which had been postponed on the previous three Saturdays.
Papworth Reserves’ reward is a clash against Suffolk Punch, Haverhill on Wednesday, May 9 in the final of the Cambs League competition. The showpiece is being staged at Ely City FC.
