Warboys Town clinched promotion to the Peterborough & District League Premier Division with three games to spare.

A 2-2 draw against Whittlesey Athletic Reserves last Tuesday night, in which Dan Moulds bagged both Warboys goals, assured Chris Whitfield’s men of the top-three finish they required in Division One to earn a rise in class.

Warboys’ base at Forge Way has already been passed fit for Premier Division football by league bosses.

Champions Moulton Harrox Reserves – who beat Warboys 2-1 on Saturday – can’t be promoted as they already have a first-team playing at Premier Division level.

So Warboys, who then clinched second spot by beating Netherton United Reserves 3-1 on Tuesday thanks to goals from Matt Brown, Dan Moulds and player-boss Chris Whitfield, will go up along with the third-placed finishers.

Whitfield said: “The lads have worked extremely hard and played some great football throughout the season. Promotion is nothing more than they deserve.

“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves until it is officially confirmed by the league, though.”

Warboys can cap a memorable campaign with cup success on Friday night when they face fellow Division One side, Oakham United Reserves, in the Chairman’s Championship Shield final. That fixture is at Peterborough Northern Star FC with a 7.15pm kick-off time.

Whitfield added: “It’s a great opportunity to add to what has already been a very good season.

“We’re in the middle of a hectic run of five games in 13 days so it will take a big effort against a tough Oakham team.

“We’re certainly looking forward to the final and I understand we will have a decent crowd behind us.”

Ramsey Town are homing in on the Division Two title after a pair of smooth successes in recent days.

Leading scorer Jamie Darlow and Aiden Stanford both struck twice in a 7-0 romp against Leverington Reserves last Saturday and Darlow then hit another double in a 4-0 victory at Langtoft Reserves last night (Wednesday).

It leaves Ramsey, who are chasing a second successive promotion, three points clear at the summit with two games to play.
