Brampton manager Wayne Ambler says there is no pressure on his side in the biggest game of the Cambs League season.

The Kershaw Premier Division table-toppers entertain second-placed Great Shelford in a crunch clash at the Memorial Field this Saturday.

Brampton have breezed seven points clear at the summit thanks to a seven-match unbeaten run - a fine streak stretching back to the beginning of December and featuring six wins.

But their weekend opponents boast four matches in hand while third-placed West Wratting are also seven points behind Ambler’s pacesetters, but have played six fewer matches.

“Every game is a big one when challenging at the top of the table - but this one is even bigger!” said Ambler. “How we perform against a side like Great Shelford will show us how far we’ve come and we’re all looking forward to it.

“I don’t think we’ve ever beaten them, so I’ll pleased with any sort of positive result. We picked up a terrific 0-0 at their place earlier in the season when we didn’t have a recognised goalkeeper so we can take plenty of belief from that.

“The lads are confident anyway - we’re scoring goals, we’re defending well and we’re enjoying every minute of the season.

“There’s no pressure on us at all. Great Shelford and West Wratting should both be up there fighting for the title with the players they have, whereas we are hugely exceeding expectations.

“You have to remember we only finished 11th last season, so it has been a great campaign for us regardless of what happens from here. No-one could have predicted we’d be sitting in this position.”

Brampton’s latest success was gained last Saturday when they triumphed 2-0 at struggling Cambridge City Development.

Both of the goals arrived in the first half as Martin Turner’s classy opener was followed by a Cavan King header. Danny Cain was denied a further goal by the woodwork, while Turner and Matt Gearing also saw efforts cleared off the line.

Brampton now boast two table-topping teams after their reserve side climbed to the Division 2B summit last Saturday.

Ellis Ogle, Curtis Pearson and Sam Niccolls hit the goals in a 3-1 victory against previous leaders March Rangers.
