Boss Martin Pammenter grabbed an acrobatic goal at the age of 50 to help Needingworth United to Cambs League derby glory last Saturday.

A shortage of players led to Pammenter naming himself as substitute for the 4-0 success against Bluntisham Rangers in Kershaw Senior B Division.

And, when skipper Matt Cox picked up a knock just before the break, Pammenter was required to step onto the pitch. He didn’t take long to make his mark when scoring with an unlikely overhead kick early in the second period.

It was Pammenter’s first goal for almost two years - the last one also arrived on a day when United had availability issues.

His latest effort effectively sealed the points against Bluntisham for a Needingworth side who took command in the first half through Michael Thomspon and Steve Beeson. Luke Gatford later added a fourth goal.

Needingworth are within 90 minutes of reaching the Percy Oldham Memorial Cup final for the second successive season.

Runners-up last term, Pammenter’s men host Sawston Rovers in a semi this Saturday.

It proved to be a painful day for Bluntisham Rangers Reserves keeper Darren Young last Saturday.

He suffered a dislocated shoulder in their 5-1 loss at Earith United in Division 3B. The Bluntisham side led at the time courtesy of a Luke Sterna goal, but promotion hopefuls Earith soon took command with braces from Lloyd Schwier and Thomas Wright, and a Josh Parker strike.
