Huntingdon United are experiencing double-double Cambs League delight.

Lee Milton’s men clinched the Kershaw Senior B Division title late last week to follow up their Percy Oldham Memorial Cup victory back in March.

It means United have picked up two honours in consecutive seasons – they won Division 1B and the Creake Charity Shield last term - and Milton is full of praise for the players who have contributed to the club’s rapid rise.

He said: “To complete a league and cup double two seasons in a row is pretty much unheard of at any level of football. It’s a great achievement and the boys deserve all the credit as they have been exceptional.

“We were trailing the leaders Red Lodge by 11 points with 10 games to go, but we went on a great run to win the title.

“I didn’t think that winning the Division 1B title without losing a game last season could be emulated, but the boys have done exactly that.

“Our season could have been over in February, but we’re not the sort of people to just go through the motions. The squad bought into what I asked of them and they have the sort of togetherness I’ve never seen before.

“Last season we showed we could maintain good levels of performance when things always went well – this season we showed we have character in abundance.”

United sealed the title when triumphing 4-1 at second-placed Whittlesford in a crunch clash last Thursday night.

Jamie Blackwell struck twice with George Smith and Scott Lindsay also finding the net to earn victory in their penultimate fixture.

That left United, who will play Kershaw Senior A Division football next season, in an unassailable position before they received a walkover when Lakenheath Reserves failed to raise a side for their scheduled final outing last Saturday.

Ramsey Pavilion agonisingly missed out on promotion from Division 2B following a crucial showdown on the final day of the season.

The local lads sat in second place ahead of their last outing at third-placed Isleham, but they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat which led to them being leapfrogged by their conquerors.

Only the top two finishers go up as a rule, but Pavilion could still rise as three teams withdrew from Division 1B during the course of the campaign.
