New signing Jordan Brockett hit a debut winner as Houghton & Wyton enjoyed derby success on the opening day of their season last Saturday.
The former Godmanchester Rovers and Huntingdon Town forward’s late strike earned his side a 1-0 victory at newly-promoted AFC Barley Mow in a Division 1B clash of two of the most progressive sides in the area.
Houghton & Wyton reeled off four successive promotions before finishing fourth in their debut season at this level last term.
They have brought in joint player-boss Jon Brierley and a host of other new faces in a bid to challenge for another rise in class.
The Barley boys have bagged back-to-back title triumphs since moving into Saturday football and Sean Sweeney’s men were only a whisker away from snatching a point in their first Division 1B outing as Dean Legg saw a last-gasp header hit the post.
