ALTHOUGH the river was out of sorts for the final match in this year's summer series, long-time leaders Van Den Eynde picked up enough fish to seal the win.

The team have secured three first places and one second across the series to finish way ahead of their challengers.

Roach were not feeding on the match day and so bonus fish became important.

The Mark One B team finished second in the league, with Peterborough Red and Mark One A coming in equal third.

Individually, Mark One's Paul Spriggs caught 18lb 14oz from his peg below Milton Bridge, with the same area providing the remainder of the main frame apart from Wayne Swinscoe pegged at Orton Down.

RAY Best, fishing the venue for the first time for several weeks, won Saturday's sweepstake with 28lb 4oz. Keith Ellington was second and Graham Gooddraw came third.

SUNDAY'S match was the H Shaw teams of three.

It was decided to use the narrows and some of the higher number pegs on the Forty Foot.

It was the latter pegs that fished best for match winner Harry Young who, Stan says, must have been on a 'shedful'. George Coles, was second and Roger Gowler came third.

The teams of three was won by George Coles partnered by Paul and Andrew Kilby with the trio of Roger Gowler, Vern Edgley and Steve Fryer in second.

THERE was a close finish to Saturday's match at Pocket Park, with Nigel Fawkes finishing just two ounces ahead of Mark Dickerson. Chris Young was third.

St Ives AS

THERE was a practice match for next Sunday's teams of four events fished on Dolphin Meadow on Sunday. Attendance was low, with many of those intending to fish already committed to other matches. The roach did not feed and the match was won by Dave York from March, who managed to catch on the tip.

SUNDAY'S match was fished at Burtons Bank and was won by Dick Denson, from Dave King and Terry Moat.

RESULT: 1 Dick Denson 10lb 2oz, 2 Dave King 9lb 14oz, 3 Terry Moat 4lb 12oz.

Grahams Pond

THE second round of the King of the Pond was fished on Sunday and saw Terry Kelly the clear winner - extending his lead in the competition.

While Terry is now well ahead it is tight behind him, with only ounces covering the next six anglers.

RESULT: 1 Terry Kelly 22lb 7oz, 2 Pat Magilop 6lb 4oz, 3 Steve Webb 6lb 2oz.

Lawn Farm

CHRIS Young from St Neots was the winner of last Tuesday's Golden Rod match with 46lb 3oz of carp and skimmers.

Mark McFiggins was second and George Tabb finished third.

Barbel Fishing

LOCAL fisherman Andy Bell recently decided to give up match fishing in favour of specimen hunting - he is currently seeking barbel.

He has caught two doubles in his first three trips and is shown with an 11lb 12oz specimen taken from the Ouse at Sharnbrook on Vauxhall club waters.

The fish was caught on hair-rigged halibut pellet.
