HUNTINGDON Swimming Club member Lauren Steadman won a superb silver medal at the Disability Sports Events nationals in Sheffield earlier this month.

Competitors from more than 30 countries joined the best British swimmers for a full three days of competition. British hopefuls were aiming to catch the eye with a view to making the world championships team which heads to South Africa in September.

Lauren kept her nerves under control to make a total of five finals, including the 400m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and the 100m Breaststroke in which she won her silver medal.

Her head coach Vix Metcalf said: "We had expected some international teams to attend but for 32 to turn up was incredible. Lauren excelled herself throughout the meet and claimed personal best after personal best.

"She was a credit to herself and to her coaches. She has been identified as a swimmer with a lot of potential by British Swimming and after her performance she has been asked to apply for the world class potential squad for next season.
