St Ives 10-20 Oundle
ST IVES were consigned to defeat by a last-minute Oundle try in a pulsating game at Somersham Road.
In a furious first 15 minutes of the game it became clear the game would be hard-fought. Oundle had the advantage of the wind and the hill, and notched six points after St Ives frustration gave way to penalties.
Ollie Scott and Emanuel Hovette both went close for Ives, and Jack Blackley missed two penalty attempts before half-time.
A superb phase of play from Oundle saw the first try of the match, converted to give them a 13-3 lead.
With 15 minutes remaining St Ives returned the favour by turning quick ball into an outflanking manoeuvre, turned into points by St Ives winger Tom Wakerley.
Blackley converted to bring the score to 13-10. Both teams threw everything into the game knowing that the next score would decide the match. But as Saints attacked Oundle stole possession and charged forward to score.
