St Neots Town 3 (S Moore 48, 73, Webb 90+3)

Blackstones 3 (Porter 24, Staffieri 33, Burton-Jones 51)

LEWIS Webb’s 93rd minute equaliser saved St Neots’ blushes as they got out of jail against Blackstones at The Hunts Post Community Stadium on Saturday.

It salvaged for Saints what had looked like an unlikely point for much of the afternoon, with the visitors surrendering a comfortable 2-0 and 3-1 leads.

The home side, who were without injured 39-goal top scorer Shane Tolley and unavailable winger Dan Jacob, failed to find their rhythm right from the word go.

Blackstones went ahead midway through the first half – albeit somewhat fortuitously – when Ben Porter’s mishit shot took a deflection off defender Jordan Gent to wrong foot keeper Tim Trebes and creep in.

That lead was doubled on 33 minutes when Billy Oliver split the home defence and Addy Staffieri produced an electric burst of speed to go clear and round the exposed Trebes, before sliding the ball into the unguarded net.

Stefan Moore pulled one back from close range for Neots three minutes after the re-start, after some slick approach play involving Theo Davis and Lewis Hilliard.

But, just three minutes later, Blackstones restored their two-goal cushion, when David Burton-Jones got up ahead of Trebes to glance an Elton Holmes free-kick into the net.

Stefan Moore gave the home faithful hope on 73 minutes when he scored from a Hilliard corner, before the former Aston Villa hitman then squandered an opportunity to level matters.

Kieran Davies smacked the crossbar with a shot but, just when it looked as though Saints were slipping to only their second reverse of the season, up popped Webb to head in Stefan Moore’s near-post cross – his sixth goal in as many games – to make it 3-3.

The game also marked a debut as a sub for 16-year-old central midfielder Ollie Montique, who has impressed for the youth and reserve teams.

Saints: Trebes, D Moore (Essandoh 72), Hyem, Webb, Fuff (C, Fordham 85), Gent, Davies, Kanuda (Montique 80), S Moore, Hilliard, Davis.

Subs not used: Scully, McShane.
