Danny King is out to sample the best feeling of his career again on Monday night when chasing a second British title.

The Huntingdon racer captured the national crown in 2016 and returns to the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester with hopes of another triumph.

King has endured a tough start to the 2018 season after being left with nerve and muscle damage in an arm following a crash while riding in the SGB Championship – the sport’s second tier – for Ipswich.

He rode through the pain barrier to come through a British semi-final at Leicester (his home track in the top-flight SGB Premiership) last month.

“Not many people can say they are a British champion and it is something which makes me very proud,” said Stukeley Meadows-based King.

“Even fewer people have done it more than once – in any sport – and I would love to be able to win the title again.

“The National Speedway Stadium will always have special memories for me from 2016. It’s a track I like and I’ll be giving it my best shot.

“I’m still not 100 per cent but that won’t hold me back once I’m on the bike and the tapes go up.

“I probably shouldn’t have ridden in the semi-final last month in all honesty but being British champion meant so much to me and I wasn’t going to miss out on the chance to try to do it again this year.”

Victory in the British Final carries the additional reward of wildcard for the British Speedway Grand Prix – a round of the World Championship - at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff

Fellow Huntingdon rider Kenneth Bjerre is bidding for success on the international stage this weekend.

Bjerre is representing Denmark in the Speedway of Nations final in Wroclaw, Poland.

Bjerre, and partner Michael Jepsen Jensen, qualified from Race Off 1 in Germany last weekend.
