Martial arts ENGLAND kickboxer Jack Bristowe achieved a remarkable feat at the Irish Open in Dublin last Sunday by picking up a bronze medal in the boys under 156cm section. Bristowe, who trains with the BCKA club in Ramsey, was competing in his first major competition and his medal was won at the largest martial arts tournament in Europe. Club instructor Andy Whitwell said: Jack trains five times per week and his hard work has paid off. He has a great future with the BCKA and credit to all the coaches that have worked hard with him to turn him into a star of the future. Meanwhile, other members of Whitwells Ramsey and St Ives clubs fought well in Dublin but narrowly missed out on the medals. Marco Broccoli and Aaron Young picked up valuable experience for next years event, while Courtney Brown got to the second round and was unlucky not to progress further - as was the case with Grant Brown. > The kickboxing club trains at Abbey College in Ramsey on Sunday evenings between 6.30-8pm and the kung fu club meets on Tuesday evenings between the same times at the St Ives Corn Exchange.
