HUNTINGDONSHIRE RUNNERS were well represented by both the Huntingdonshire Athletic Club and the Huntingdon BRJ Club at races over the New Year period.

Both clubs competed in the Ely 10km race on New Years Eve and the Ramsey Frostbite race on Sunday.

Twelve Hunts AC runners took part in the Ely race at Little Downham, and Julia McIntosh won the women's age 40 to 44 category by 13 seconds. McIntosh finished 82nd overall, with John Smith getting their highest finish of 55th.

The BRJ club had 13 runners at the race, with Ryan Woolf coming highest for them in 46th followed by Alan Hannibal in 71st.

The Hunts AC Club were back in action on New Years Day, with 17-year-old Alex Marshall showing her potential in her first 10km race at Wymondham. She finished sixth fastest female in just over 40 minutes ahead of 300 other runners.

On Sunday, 43 members took part in the Frostbite Friendly League at the Ramsey Sports Centre. The Seniors remained fourth overall with two races remaining. Ian Marshall led the team finishing 53rd overall, just one second ahead of team mate Shane Hunt, who finished 54th. Alex Marshall again did well, finishing as the fifth fastest female and 79th overall out of the 389 senior runners taking part.

In the junior race James Downing finished second out of 111 runners, with Luke Scott finishing just behind him in eighth. The junior team is in third place, one point behind Werrington Runners.

The BRJ club had 34 runners at the Ramsey race. Pete Galpin got the clubs' best result finishing ninth overall, with Lee Brooks in 43rd their best finish behind him.

Alex Bryden finished 11th for the BRJ in the junior race with Alys Moore coming behind in 53rd.

ANNUAL RANKINGS were published at the end of 2008, and the Huntingdonshire Athletic Club was well represented.

Chloe Edwards ranked as the second best Under 23 Women's shot putter and also came 10th in the senior list as well as eighth best shot putter in Great Britain. Christian Roberts, 17, was the eighth fastest 400 metre hurdler in the U20 Men's rankings and 30th in the Senior Men's list.

James Downing ranked 13th in the U13 Boys and Anya Rodriguez was ranked as the fourth best triple jumper in the country in the U13 Girl's category.
