Town secured the crown with a game to spare following a 13-run derby triumph over Ramsey with four balls to spare at The Parks yesterday. That was in spite of the best efforts of Ramsey man Dean Jones who followed up figures of 4-23 with a knock of 79 which gave his team hope of ending Godmanchesters unbeaten summer record. In the end they fell just short with Jones the penultimate wicket to fall before Paul Swannell removed Mark Edwards from the second ball of the final over. Ramsey were eventually dismissed for 171 as they chased the champions offering of 184-9. Tariq Aziz top-scored with 47. Godmanchester would still have wrapped up the title even if they had been beaten yesterday as sole challengers Wisbech went down to defeat at Histon. Elsewhere, Warboys bottom-of-the-table finish was confirmed by a 76 run loss at Nassington. Liam Gaynor followed up three wickets with 61 as Warboys were dismissed for 133 in pursuit of 200-9. Jake Allcock hit 60 for Waresley as they went down to Foxton by five wickets. Their posting of 177-9 was comfortably eclipsed despite three Nigel Buckingham-Jones wickets. St Ives saw their promotion hopes dealt a blow after being beaten by relegation battlers Khalsa in Division Two. The locals went down to a four-wicket reverse despite half-centuries from Richard Greiller and Jack Haycock in their 184-6. Khalsa successfully chased down the target with more than an over to spare. Two other promotion-chasing teams tripped each other up as Kimbolton and Huntingdon & District battled out a draw. The hosts finished on 152-6 as they never looked like threatening H & Ds posting of 211-8. The three local sides feature among five teams who will go into play on the final day of the season next Saturday in with a chance of claiming second spot. Blunham are now in the driving seat after jumping into that position yesterday.
