A round-up of the weekend hockey action

St Ives Ladies 3-0 Harleston Magpies II

ST IVES quickly made amends for last week's defeat to Lincoln, going ahead after just five minutes.

Louise Jane Smith tapped in a rebound following fine link-up play between midfield and forward line.

Ives held the lead until the break, though Magpies had the better of the game after the interval. Ives extended their lead from a penalty corner, when Helen Clarke fed Abby Holland on the back post.

The game was wrapped up shortly after, as player-of-the-match Clarke passed to Holland, who passed to Anne Selfe for the third goal.

- THE Men's first team went down 2-1 at Felixstowe.

Both teams played expansive hockey from the start, and St Ives were unlucky to go behind after a shot took a big deflection past the keeper.

They struggled to find their rhythm and fell further behind from the second-half pushback, as the Felixstowe striker rounded Alex Ginns in goal and shot past the covering defender.

With 15 minutes to go, a cross from man-of-the-match Alex Prestage found an unmarked Allan Knox to score at the second attempt. St Ives host Upminster next week.

St Ives Men II won a cracking game 5-4 against Cambridge City IV, having been 4-1 up, while the thirds narrowly lost 3-2 away against Boston I.

St Ives IV won 3-0 against Cambridge South IV, and Ives V also took the points with a convincing 5-1 victory against March Town IV.

- HUNTINGDON I won a to-and-fro battle 4-3 against Cambridge University III in the Cambs East Premier.

Joan Griffiths and Sarah Chadband twice put the Hunters ahead but Uni equalised. Hannah Darcy scored a third after half-time, and Chadband made the game safe at 4-2 after before Uni secured a late goal.

Huntingdon Ladies II had to lend their opponents players in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Cambridge Nomads. Nomads took a 2-0 first-half lead, and added a third in the second period. Liz Mitchell created chances for Huntingdon, who hit the post three times but could not claim a consolation.
