St Neots man Joss Williams finished 116th in his age group when taking part in the Ironman World Championships last weekend.

Williams competed in the M35-39 bracket in Hawaii where he negotiated a 2.4 mile swim, a 112-mile cycle and a full 26.2 mile marathon in a total time of 10 hours, 11 minutes and 49 seconds.

Six members of the St Neots-based NiceTri club took part in a European Duathlon Championship qualifier at Bedford Autodrome.

Michael Taylor was the star performer over the standard distance of a 10km run, 40km cycle and final 5km run. He finished second overall and first in his M35-39 age bracket in 1:54.51, while Kyle Chesterton was second at M30-34 level in 1:59.53.

Four other locals completed the sprint event over a 5km run, 20km cycle and 2.5km run. Karl Hiner (M50-54) finished eighth in 1;03.42, Paul Ridley (M50-54) took 114th in (1:06.10), Pat Ellerbeck (M60-64) was 118th in 1:06.41 and Phil Redden (M65-69) completed in 1:12.20 for 159th place.
