A TOP crop of runners turned out on Sunday to take advantage of good conditions at the Ramsey Abbey 10k road race, hosted by Ramsey Road Runners.

The race started and finished in the Abbey College grounds, and formed part of the Cambs Road Race 2011 10k Championship and the 2011 A1 race series.

The overcast conditions with light drizzle made for good running conditions, and Michael Moore (Werrington) made full use to storm home in 34mins 16secs, nearly half a minute clear of second-placed Mike Chapman (Nene Valley).

Ian Turner was highest finishing Hunts runner, as he took seventh place for Riverside Runners, and Steve McNicol (BRJ) was first home in the V50 class in a creditable 45th.

Hunts AC runner Christina Marshall squeezed home in 98th after Katie Sherwood (Cambridge and Coleridge) crossed the line in 28th spot to win the Ladies’ event.

In the 3k Fun Run it was a Ward one-two as Thorney runners Liam and Adam Ward led the field home, with Faye McClellan of Hunts AC giving the boys a run for their money with third spot, just seconds behind.
