HUNTINGDON Town get their United Counties League Division 1 season underway with a trip to Peterborough Northern Star this weekend.

The Jubilee Park club will be looking to build on last season's 14th-placed finish under the stewardship of new boss Paul Swannell and assistant Paul McSweeney.

Town warmed up for the season with a

3-1 reverse at home to Langford at the weekend and took on Bedford United in a rearranged fixture last night.

Manager Paul Swannell said: "Our pre-season has gone quite well, although we haven't actually won any of our games the lads are getting to know each other and I'm getting to know them.

"I don't know too much about Peterborough Northern Star as I'm new to the league but we'll prepare ourselves as best we can and go up there and play our own game.

"There's some great commitment being shown by our lads and we've been playing some entertaining football. Martin Wells is starting to look like the handful we know he can be so there are lots of positive signs and we're optimistic for the new campaign."

Goalkeeper Dave Beanie is struggling to be fit for the opener with twisted knee ligaments, while Peterborough United loanee Alan Haine returns from holiday on Thursday which may be too late to be considered.
