HUNTINGDONSHIRE were blown away by Norfolk in their Adams and Newton Trophy matches last weekend.

In the Newton Trophy match Hunts started well, picking up early points, against the reliably strong Norfolk outfit. But as the match reached the midway point Norfolk had begun to dominate in four of the six rinks. David Brace’s rink, with Bill Starkey and Nigel Pratt, proved the exception as after easing into a lead they rarely looked troubled and went on to win 31-23. Steve Baker, Ian Cousins and Adrian Cossey held their nerve to take a deserved point in a 32-32 shots result, but it was doom and gloom for the remaining four rinks. Paul Payne’s rinks lost 34-21, John McKee and partners fell 31-16, the Peter Reeson trio lost 33-19 and Mick Cousins’ rink were beaten 38-20.

The final shot score of 191-140 in Norfolk’s favour consigned Hunts to a 19-3 points defeat.

In the Adams Trophy at Cawston, it was a similar tale for an underperforming Hunts team. Hunts took two wins from the six rinks as Kevin Bowers led his charges to a 39-23 win and Sid Webb’s trio won 30-25, but heavy defeats on the rest of the rinks left Hunts well beaten at 194-129 in Norfolk’s favour.
