EATON Socon moved up to third in Hunts County Bats Division One table with a great fight back and six run victory over Godmanchester Town II.

Eaton made 191 for eight with the in-form Dave Humphrey yet again leading the way making 77 and both Ray Tudor and Joe Donnelly making 23 and Mohammed Rahman taking five for 38.

In reply, Goddy made a quick start with James Howells making 32 in a opening partnership of 57. Goddy seemed to be heading for victory at 118 for two but the introduction of Roan Haarhoff changed the game when he had opener Rahman superbly stumped by Humphrey for 57.

Haarhoff went on to take four wickets for 43 runs and Namal Senaviratna got three for 36 to bowl Goddy out for 185, despite an excellent 47 from Chip Wood.

Pre-season underdogs Alconbury put Huntingdon & District into bat and they looked set to post a 200 plus target after scoring 60 runs in the first 10 overs.

But once again the Alconbury bowlers excelled and pegged Huntingdon back to 181 all out after 43 overs.

Gary Cole was the pick of the attack taking four for 47 but was ably supported by the Ewings, Dexter and Richard, who between them bowled 24 overs and took 4 wickets for under 70 runs.

Neil Suckling (34), Paul Suckling (25), Tom Moran (21) and Richard Ewing (32) stacked up the runs and there was under-14s batsman Harry Cotton who made 16 and showed a great maturity.

Alconbury cemented their place at the top of the table when they reached the target with Richard King (23) knocking off the final runs with two overs to spare.

Hunts 2

EATON Socon II beat top of the league Southill Park in Division Two of the Hunts County Bats League. Southill made 162 with Tom Banks and Adam Newman both taking three for 23.

Eaton reached the target for the loss of eight wickets with Callum West making 46 and captain Ben Gowling seeing his side home with 24 not out.

Hunts 4

BRAMPTON got their first win of the season against the team at the top of the Hunts County Bats Division Four table.

An excellent bowling display from Olly Day in his first game of the season helped the home side get Eaton Socon III out cheaply. Day finished figures of five for 31 from his alloted 12 overs and he was assisted brilliantly by team captain Pete Boardman (three for 16) and Duncan McGregor (two for 13).

Eaton Socon were all out for 60 and Brampton started confidently with Andy Pegram looking back to his best before a little run of wickets made for some nervous moments. Apart from the bizarre stumping that removed Pegram for 21, Brampton got over the line in the 16th over with six wickets to spare.

Hunts Development

ALCONBURY’S development team went to Peterborough Town and recorded an excellent six wicket victory.

Cavan King took two for 22 in restricting Peterborough to 167 for seven. Charlie Nelson (46) and Harry Moffet (57 not out) made short work of the chase and the winning runs were scored with a huge six by Dan Godward (23 not out) after just 37.1 overs.

It was a highly encouraging first win of the season for the young side.
