HUNTINGDON Ladies first 11 are celebrating a league and cup double after adding the Cambridgeshire Women’s Hockey League Division One Cup to the championship they won last month.
Undefeated all season, the team won their title with two games in hand, nine points ahead of their nearest rivals and with a goal difference of 72. And, in the final of the Division’s knock out cup, they beat a strong Cambridge Nomads seconds 5-2.
Huntingdon dominated in the first half and led 3-0 with goals from Holly Addis, Natalie Dodson and Lucy Lumbers. In the second half Sarah Chadband made it 4-0 before Cambridge fought back. However, Huntingdon struck back themselves with another goal, this time from Jacqui O’Neill.
Nomads managed to score again but goalkeeper Alex Saulter was brilliant, blocking Nomads’ persistent attempts, to safeguard the lead until full time.
