HUNTINGDONSHIRE bowlers struggled in both the Adams and Newton trophy matches against Lincolnshire at the weekend.

Lincolnshire took a 30-shot aggregate win in the Adams Trophy match, but Hunts snatched rink wins in two of the six matches and managed a half in one. The stars of the day were John Hignett’s rink, who won 36-20, and Sid Webb’s rink, who collected a 24-22 victory. Kevin Bowers managed a 29-29 draw. Keith Minnett’s rink took a 43-19 pounding and Tony Chapman’s rink went down 36-23. John Waine went down 33-22 to leave the points share at 17-5 in Lincolnshire’s favour.

The top Huntingdon rink in the Newton match was skipped by Paul Payne, winning 29-26 after some fine bowling. John McKee and his team earned a deserved 33-31 win, but it was a tale of what might have been for the other rinks as Lincs won 189-153.

In the Huntingdon Bowls leagues White Hart A and B teams are topping Divisions One and Three, while the club continue to impress at national level.

In the Men’s National Club Two Fours they have dispatched four clubs and will meet Stewart & Lloyds at home on Sunday.

In the National Top Club competition three resounding wins to date have taken them to a fourth round home tie against West Ward, Peterborough, also to be played on Sunday.
