Huntingdon & District closed the gap to four points at the top of the Hunts League Division 1 table after thrashing leaders Ufford Park on their own patch.

They were heading for what looked a 200-plus total when Nomi Khan got shot of the last three batsmen (including top scorer Tom Cooper) in the space of 14 balls to leave Huntingdon a 190 target instead.

It could have been tricky but Nikhil Kumpukkal (82) and an unbroken fourth wicket stand between Navid Ahmed (40no) and Khaqan Arsal (35no) settled the issue with 10 overs to spare.

Good day for lowly Ramsey, too, since they produced a sparkling all-round effort to see off Hampton.

Six batsmen contributed to the home team’s 200-7 – Matt Gilbert (37no) and Rob Menary (31) led the way - before Tim Willis (3-36) and the four other bowlers used took wickets to send Hampton back shy of the target.

Waresley were joined at the summit of Division 2 by Stamford Town after they came unstuck at Peterborough in a last-ball thriller. Despite a huge second-wicket stand between Myles Cordeux (92) and Phil Gillett (52).

Their efforts took the erstwhile leaders to 210-6, but Peterborough also had a big stand opening their reply and they stuck to their guns thereafter, even though wickets fell regularly to a four-man attack. Three run outs added to the fun but Peterborough’s last pair wouldn’t budge and they nicked it with a boundary from the final delivery.

Only Gary Cole (44no) offered much with the bat as Alconbury were dismissed for a miserly 98 and beaten by five wickets at the hands of Stamford Town, while Houghton & Wyton’s Michael Piaggesi proved a six hit in a low-scoring affair with Barnack.

Hale boys Julian (33) and Callum (30) – along with 31 extras – contributed most to Houghton and Wyton’s modest 141, but Piaggesi ensured it was more than enough by claiming 6-30 in 12 splendid overs.

Jerry Wood weighed in with 3-43 and Barnack wound up 50 short.

Buckden eased further clear of the Division 3 basement after bowlers Steve Tuffin (4-32) and Ian Jones (4-35) combined to dismiss neighbours Upwood for only 93. It wasn’t an easy target for the visitors but a few minor contributions and 31 extras secured the spoils.

Warboys III just about got the better of Ickwell II in Division 4 – their 192-8 won the day by 20 runs – while Hemingford Park were the latest to benefit from another Yaxley second string cancellation.
