THE weekend sunshine was not welcomed by two hardy Hunts AC athletes running the Edinburgh Marathon. With many runners opting not even to take the start line because of the conditions, marathon debutants Samantha Lowings and Emily Biddle, right, battled through to the end. From a field of nearly 10,000 runners, Lowings finished in 5,258th position in 4hrs 31min 53secs, with Biddle 9,055th in 5hrs 58mins 3secs. Meredith Ash was the sole winner for Hunts AC at the Southern Women's League Division One North meeting at Mile End on Saturday. She picked up the 200m B string in 27.9secs to record the small squad's best result of the day. In the A string, Lily Seach set a personal best 27.0secs to finish fourth. The Hemingway family of Riverside Runners enjoyed a day of success at the Cambridge Park 5k Run on Sunday. Son Tom finished 19th in a personal best 19.06 to finish as first junior, while father Maurice finished 42nd in 20.52 to win the award for the first O55 veteran. Daughter Catherine rounded out the day in 88th in 24.21 to finish as third junior girl.
