Hunts AC veterans finish season on a high

HUNTINGDONSHIRE Athletic Club Veterans track and field team completed their season at Milton Keynes with some fine individual performances.

The men’s team, pictured, finished third on the night and saw Peter Downhill take wins in the M40 400m and 800m.

Hunts AC newcomer Richard Holland made an immediate impact by winning the M50 3000m race by 37 seconds, beating the club veteran’s record.

However it was Rob Campbell, running in the M40 3000m race, who made the biggest impact on the night as he ran over two seconds faster than Holland, reducing the record by almost four seconds to 9mins 52.8secs.

Richard Phelan won the M40 triple jump with his furthest leap this year, and achieved season’s bests in the pole vault and discus.

In the women’s team, Sandra Pedley added 10 centimetres to her club record in her W45 pole vault win, and Sue Cahill impressed with a win in the W35 triple jump, winning the event by a full metre.

? THE 30-year-old U17 men’s 4x100m relay record was reduced by 0.7 secs at the East Anglian League meeting in Luton.

The team of Hakeem Duckworth-Porter, Ryan Palmer, Tom Johnson, and Jordan Gillbanks teamed up for the first time this season to clock 45.8secs.

Palmer had already picked up the U17M 100m and 200m A strings, setting a PB in the latter.

Duckworth-Porter and Gillbanks won the 100m and 200m B strings respectively, and both strings of the high jump. Gillbanks’ 1.70m in the A string was the highest by a club athlete this year, and he picked up his fourth win of the day by winning the 800m.

Fifteen-year-old Luke Scott won the U17M 400m and 800m B string races, both with PBs.

Jonathan Edwards set his 17th record of the season in the shot put, and won the discus, while Paul Hayball won both B strings and the A string javelin.

Katie Scholey was the top Hunts AC girl of the meet, winning the U15 800m A and improving her long jump PB by 12cms.
