HUNTINGDON Piranhas saw of competition from Deepings, Modernians and Godmanchester to win the Novice Gala by a healthy margin.

Four age groups of swimmers put together an outstanding series to win 28 of the 41 races. Now over six months into a new training cycle, the hard work of this dedicated bunch is starting to pay off.

"Our training is in a demanding period at the moment" said head coach John Richards "For the team to swim so well when they've not had a break is great. Their technique is improving all the time and the results do the talking."

During the gala 15 swims were personal bests and Sam Gray, Charlotte Elson, Olivia Pearce and David Hall all swam exceptionally well. Old timers Ryan Skeels, Alex Murray, Kristen Chadband and Tamara Richards made up am effective open-age group team.

Three Piranhas also competed at the Eastern Regional Championships with 19 year old Ryan Skeels from Chatteris finishing sixth in the final of the 50 metre free style.
