HUNTINGDON Boat Club held its annual Head of the River race on Saturday.
The Head of the River is a time trial event where crews race from Houghton Mill to Huntingdon Town Bridge – and a total of 82 crews from clubs from across East Anglia took to the water for the event.
The men’s masters quad of Andy Wood, Iain Rickerby, Trevor Scales and Jon Deacon posted the fastest time of the day in a closely-fought race while there was also success for the ladies novice four of Ruth Twynam, Sophie Robinson, Laura Fozzard and Marlene Taylor, coxed by Stephen Twynam.
Josh Davies came a close second in his junior 15 scull event; he is getting faster every time he competes. The masters double of Jon Deacon and Edward Adams were runners up in their event while a men’s novice four of Tom Doig, Luke Stokes, Alan Callear and Graham Lilley had their first paddle in a Head event and were pleased with their time.
